Expedia.com and American Airlines go toe to toe...

The big news in the travel industry this week is the battle between Expedia.com and American Airlines.   Expedia is world's largest online travel company and American Airlines is no small company.   BUT, American has been wanting it's customers to book straight with them instead of using various travel web sites.   Sooo....they ditched Expedia!

American claims you can get just as good of deal by going to their web site, AmericanAirlines.com, and they also hope to build up customer loyoalty.  Expedia, www.expedia.com, which also owns Hotwire and TripAdvisor, is no longer listing American on their websites as of January 1st, 2011.

But travel experts feel this travel battle may only hurt the customers as each company jockeys to get the best deal.   American, who also ditched Orbitz, has a new system that the travel sites don't want to use.   The travel sites claim American Airlines are being too control happy.

Plus with online travel sites being used so predominately, American Airlines might be shooting itself in the foot with these new changes.   Time will tell...
